Did any of the Bali Bombers ever own a cat?
Placed in arms as a trembling, timid,
vulnerable kitten.…..
a little kindness and patience…..
a warm, trusting bundle of playful energy!

Did any one of the Bali Bombers ever assume
responsibility for another creature?
animal?….or person?
(or any one assume such responsibility for them?)
worry about it’s welfare when they
couldn’t be home….

feel the warmth
of a soft, breathing animal friend
curled up on their lap?
Stroke it tenderly as it lay stretched out beside them?
Play ball games and chasey games out in the green
sunshiny backyard world of children…
and cats….

I silently,
and often with tears in my eyes
observe a boy…and his cat…
love…trust…security…empathy
I marvel at the boy’s gentle nature,
his capacity for love
and ability to think beyond himself…
The world,
in my son’s care,
will be all right.

sadly Hitler cared more about his pets than any human. I love your poem and its message of hope.

Thanks Irwin, I didn't know Hitler was a pet lover? Isn't that odd? A human is so complex and perplexing.

ANd Saddam had two cats! ME and my old cat were like that, sadly she passed away *cries*...Gave it a 'i like it' vote!

P.S: CATS ARE AWESOME!!!!

Reaper thank you so much! I dread the day our cat gets too old, very much a family member.

Oh, I love the idea of this poem! Questioning how people can do such atrocious acts. I ask myself that every day.

Apodiform I find it hard to believe that such acts are from normal, loved reasonably adjusted people? Thanks for reading and comment.

I love cats. I have two solid black males who would
follow me to the ends of the earth. I wouldn't know
what I'd do without them. Very good poem.

Our cat is black too and we love him to bits. Thanks Michael for reading and comment.

Human nature is amazing, isn't it?? I didn't know Hitler was a cat-lover either. Great poem.

Thanks MA, it is surprising that someone who loves animals can be so unflinching when it comes to humans. Glad you liked my poem.

From one cat-lover to another, Anna Therese, this poem is a keeper. Sweet, reflective and wise-- especially a potent reminder of the unfettered, simple wisdom and integrity of children sadly lost as we become adults. 'Loved it.

Thanks Oscube for reading and affirmative comment.

Oh my God! Where have I been all these days, missing such a wonderful poem!

I loved the 'sunshiny backyard world of children' and '(or any one assume such responsibility for them?)' the most.

But you know what, I do know some regular, non-terrorist human beings who have pets and are the epitome of love and gentleness with them, but when dealing with fellow human beings they are callous, inconsiderate and insensitive. I happen to know that some of them really did not have anyone assume much responsibility for them (except financially) when they were children. Maybe they are antagonized towards the members of their own species for the injustice they had to face, real or perceived, and therefore transfer their love to other animals.

Of course, these ones are aberrations. I should know, I have an eight year old dog and I can't imagine the time when he will not be around.

Urja thanks for sweet and thoughtful coment. Yes, someone told me Hitler had his pet animals so it sort of throws my "theory" out of the window! And it is interesting that cats for example can bond well with humans and dogs but when another cat is thrown into the picture...!

nothing matches the tender-ness that children shows:) love the poem very much...and i love cats a lot
