Snow and resort studded mountains

El Nino winters

Bridges to glory

Neighbours clasping hands

(with guns in their pockets

and whatever happened to

a child’s right to trust?)

Hi AT. The first thing that came to mind when reading was "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful". Maybe because the first line is so romantic but quickly everything falls apart. What a potent writing. Do we ever really know our neighbours? I mean people change so often that once we know them, do we watch their change or just slowly adapt to who they've become without realization that they've changed.

I say that in reference to child rearing. We change ourselves once we become parents. We keep changing over years and thus, do we ever really know, even ourselves? What was once considered a travesty slowly measures out to be not so bad as times change. Neighbours clasping hands .... I might be a bit cynical here this morning. But, all this provoked out of me in your seven lines.

You should have submitted this poetry into your competition rather than Ebony Exotica. what think?

Author Comment:

Thanks Peach for the first comment ever to this poem!!! (Reason why I featured it, thought it had a little merit) This poem tells a similar tale to the Olympics in fact. Neighbours clasping hands in mutual respect for our athletes - but still the angst of China/Tibet, Russia/Georgia and all sorts of nasty things and mistrust lurking in the background. Couldn't go in the competition because I had to include the line "I couldn't believe my luck" - although realised later I could have played clever with this and still included it but broken the line eg
I couldn't believe/
my luck
so many more possibilities??
Do you enter competitions? I have done reasonably well in some, it gets quite addictive once you get into it.
Cheers!
