Black cat dreaming
sleek, graceful
pad, pad, softly
wet face pressed
upon my window
watching, waiting
Black cat mother
where are you?
I love you
*
If anyone else is pleased to see me in the morning, he is the only one who shows it. He is the only one who tells me I bring him contentment, warmth, gladness…
*
Amber, almond eyes
gleam trust, adoration
Black cat lover
grazes legs, purring
warm, gentile, regal
agile bound to
our kitchen table
Black cat mother
smoodge me dear
*
Who else is going to stay with me, play with me, calm me, lick my salty tears, perch close to me, heat the bottom of my bed, stretch out for hours beside me, see me only, always, as beautiful, see me truly, make me smile…
smile…
*
Black cat mother
slow, pensive,
pad, pad, medium-soft
drinks black coffee
window watching, waiting
whisper wishing
Black cat dreaming
where are you?
I love you too

My Black Cat was called Felix, his partner poor Oscar didn't survive long. Your Poem brings back memories.

Thanks for reading Susan. A poem like this can evoke lovely memories, glad it did for you.

Smooodge? Is there an emotional physical notion that I am not aware of?!!

Oh what love you pour into this poem! Amber, almond eyes sums up your regal thoughts for your feline lover!

I admire your ability to step outside the box which you so often do with your poems. There are no lines around AT.

By the end of reading, I could feel the purrrring, which, I'm certain, is your objective.

Very Cool AT.

Brooke thanks for reading and equally sweet comment.

Just loved it!!! I have 3 cats. All were born wild. 1 was bottle fed. Sometimes they are all sleeping around me when I wake up.

Lovely comment Bubbly - you have a very poetic way of putting things.

Anna Therese:

Most well written and expressed "valentine". To one's own pet cat. Loyalty and affection from one's own pet is hard to duplicate. When another human being is the object of our affection. Serving to show how humans can learn some of the more noble human character traits from some of the other "critters" around us.

It is easier for a beloved pet cat or dog to not betray their owners. For a variety of reasons. The most important of which may be: "They cannot talk!". Most enjoyable.

Gave it an "I Like It" vote.

Will "catch-up" with reading your other postings. Will append "I Like It" votes. At times, without commenting.

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.

Ed I am always grateful for your reads and comments. It IS a valentine isn't it!? Sometimes "love" poems are in fact hard to write because you are too close.

Aww, how sweet! I could just imagine it, great imagery, Anna. Especially loved the "pad, pad, softly" for some reason it stuck the whole way through. Really enjoyed this one! ~ Nixie

Thanks so much Nixie - pad, pad really captures the essence of my cat's unconditional love for some reason - the way he has captured my heart.

THANKS FOR INFORMING ANNA...
An enjoyable read and the lines

Amber, almond eyes

asked me to STOP and read slowly and savour the meaning....lol...

NOW, i know why...

Pratibha this is just a little of the warmth and cheer I am sending your way to a special lady who has brought me warmth and cheer often.

I knew I could count on you to perk me up this morning, Anna!!! What a heart-warming tribute to your 'little one' A lovely read that stays with you long after.

Jerry I am so happy you came to read and comment - you so often cheer me with your poetry - glad to payback!

What a beauty, Anna! Read this poem several times - it smoothed out the wrinkles of my mind, caused by a hectic day and having to deal with lazy and inefficient subordinates. It flowed like silk against my mind, leaving it soft and smooth with a gentle glow. I have a dog who welcomes me with boundless joy every time I return home and I could really relate. The last stanza made me smile, with the focus on another black cat, drinking black coffee and padding medium softly! Hope the coffee was hot and strong!

Very beautifully written! I'm not a huge cat person, being allergic and all, but I really think they're great animals. This seems to hit the mark.

How sad to have a cat allergy. Must really damper your enthusiasm for them. Thanks for reading.

I will start to think about have a black cat to my own!

Thanks so much dreaming of you - lots of dreaming from beautiful minds (hence your pen name)

I've never though of myself as a cat lover. I always felt more of a dog person (I have certainly been called a dog), but since I have been married (nearly twenty years now) we have had CATS.

I have grown to like some of them (the ones that like me). I think we have had five so far. Salem (all black), Ranger, Nutsy, Cassie and Boo. This poem reminds me of our current cat, BOO. He is all black, just like your picture. He is a character.

Thanks for sharing,

Hope all is well and take care,

Ted

Ted great to hear from you. You have such a quirky sense of humor! (called a dog, ha ha!) I love dogs too but the mix of them around cattle (our work) is not good. Some people use cattle dogs but generally they scare the herd (hubby prefers his human cattle "dog" rounder-up - ha, ha again. Me!)

well Anna first i want to comment on the structure. It's unusual but beautifully written. i works wonderfully well. The stanzas seem to have that quick elegant grace about them; snappy with image replacing image, and then they roll into poetic prose which seems to capture the essence of the images in each stanza. I may not have explained this very well but in short I love the pace and structure of this piece. Also you catch the feelings you have in regard your cat, or anything animal or person which makes us feel loved and wanted, or rather, makes us feel special. In saying that I have a cat but I think all he really cares about is food. I tell him he’ll get fat but he takes no notice. I do love the poem tho

I love this comment Matthew! I think the structure sort of "happened" - the poem about my cat extended into the thought processes while I was with him (hence the two longer paragraph/breaks.) Academia would probably frown but anything is acceptable in the world of poetry in my view (hence poetic license?) I love the contrast between cats and cat owners!

I like all the describing words you used in this one!

Lovely warm comment thanks so much.

I love this! You really evoke why it is that the bond between people and animals is so special. It reminds me of my kitty. Plus, now I don't feel like a crazy cat lady. :P

Katie, Katie I am very happy someone took some time out to read this again. You are not crazy, cats are simply the most engaging of God's creatures!
