I dream of you
Sea!
I pine for your rush
and curling ripple
soft drifting sea spray
salt in the air

Like Pied Piper you draw me
with your wildly beautiful
crash and crescendo
sparkle of water
and holiday children’s faces

….nightmares of friend turned foe
might and fury
innocents wrenched
from your illusory playground
hurled relentlessly
to chilly dark depths…

Yet again you will draw me
I will run carefree across the sand
dive carelessly into your delicious water
allow the waves of seaside warmth
cool and relaxation to wash over me

I’ll spare a silent thought for you
and all the children
Tsunami…

I too am drawn by water and I love to be near the sea whatever the weather. When I drive across the Humber suspension bridge (UK) I have to stare straight ahead and breathe slowly and calmly, my knuckles go white as I clutch the wheel. If I am on a cliff edge above water the compulsion to jump is strong. And yes, what the sea can do can be terrible and then it goes all calm again as if nothing has happened. I like the poem and the style of writing.

Thanks Irwin, I'm glad you liked this poem. I have always been drawn to the sea. When one of my brothers was killed in an accident I couldn't grieve until I got back to the sea (we are miles away)so for me now there is a link with loved ones and closure and memories. (wierd eh?)

I could feel the emotions of the sea

Thanks Jborrti, I too love the sea. I guess for some the love is tinged with deep sadness.

Matthew I will be delighted to go in shortly and read your sea poem. I think the things in life we find the most beautiful are often difficult to capture in words - never quite live up to the way we feel about them. Thanks for reading and comment.

Wonderful poem! I love the sea! The sea is my bed. How about you anna? =)

A very generous comment and I am so glad you liked it.

The sea is so much like a fetching emerald....draws everyone closer and we all see it differently. This makes me crave the ocean. Crave! Darn, i am no where near it...so I shall read this again and dream.

My ocean poem is called Cosmic Pirate....while not entirely on the ocean it shows how important an icon the ocean can be in life.

Great work AT.

I too crave the sea! Yearn, pine, dream of...like you I am miles away and see it rarely these days. I will seek out Cosmic Pirate. Tha nks for reading and comment.

Hello Anna, I live in the mountains now but, I did grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area so, the sea was but a stone's throw away. I still sometimes miss the smells and sounds of the sea. The sea life that dwells there, in and above the water, the sound of the tides and surf crashing upon the sandy and rocky shores, especially the wonderful and bountiful food that came from the depths of the great blue green sea.

Thank you very much for allowing me to enter into some long forgotten memories!

Riobald thanks so much for reading. I do a lot of yearning for the sea. I lived beside it once as a young girl and (against her better judgement) my mother allowed me to wander on the beach alone. The love of the water has stayed with me.
