With the ever growing influence of technology, with the introduction of the SMS language, language is a sacrifice that we had to pay. My poem is a testimony to that.

If language could be bound by books,

If literature was simply the works of writers,

then its no longer literature or language now is it?

Erudites extol education,

Infants ignore it.

Words are no longer what they used to be

They have been ammputated,

simply to suit the speeding times.

Sentences are not worthy to be called so,

Phrases even less so.

Language was designed in an era when it was worshipped.

Then the world found science.

But today we have a new God - Technology,

Technology that works on speed,

Speed that compromises language.

Can language be compromised?

Elizabethans ddin't need to quote,

For the language of the common man,

was far more worthy than that of the erudite today.

An age existed,

When creation was an art in practise,

Not a lesson taught in school.

An age,

when the glory of language was its mere existance.

An age

that is no longer prevalent.

The evidence?

The above lines,

The unpolished tone of my own verses,

They are testimony, an unfortunate testimony,

And so I bear witness.
