I've read so much beautiful poetry since joining booksie, that I thought I would give it a try. A little self-reflection.

Shyness

A curse upon the tongue

A genetic inclination?

Forged in the fires of schoolyard fascism?

Contributory

My intelligence

Their jealousy

My fear

A silent voice

Caged inside for years

Words held back

Battles fought daily

Clawing to get out

Held within

By me

A freeing

A chink in the armor

A letting go

Bit by bit

Every day

One at a time

Moment by moment

I do not miss you

I remember you with disdain

I wish I could leave you behind

You cling

You remind me

You will not let go.

I envision you gone

I step out in front of you

I am too fast

You are my old life

But still

Me
