A Parents Wish...

Poetry By: attanasio

My wife inspired me to write this poem. She even gave me a few lines to work with. Poetry is infectious it seems.

A Parents wish…

By: Joe Attanasio 2011

Little bird did you clip your wings?

Were they clipped for you?

We always wished for you to soar high,

and fly through life, swift and proud.

Were you shoved out of the nest?

Did you fall?

Don't just lay where you landed,

Get up little bird, rise and shine!

We can't carry you,

You must fly on your own.

We can inspire you, teach you,

Show you how to fly.

We envision you, high in a tree,

Making a nest of your own.

Our hearts ache for you,

Lying there on the ground.

Get up little bird, you can do it.

Take flight, climb the air.

Reach new heights,

Climb anywhere, somewhere, just fly.

We wish we could toss you up,

Make you take flight.

But alas, we can't,

It must be you, all you.

We fear you may die there,

Lying on the ground.

Tears are welling in our eyes,

Please fly little bird, please fly.
