A salute to Dibs
By: Joe Attanasio
A poet walks softly among us
He shies away if we make a fuss
A gentle caring responsible man
As a humanitarian he takes a stand
He makes time to read his friends
Never criticizes, always commends
His job is mentally draining
His wife, emotionally straining
He struggles to get his life back on track
He never asks that we cut him some slack
He stands before us, human and frail
His heart is the size of a whale
His two children caught up in the mess
Adds heavily to his everyday stress
His heart and soul his wife spurned
He reaches out, but nothing is returned
His sad/hurt side he usually hides
Positive humour to us he provides
I have read his comments to many others
He treats people like his sisters and brothers
He writes with kind words and wit
His relationships here are close knit
On his shoulders is a lot of weight
How he handles it is first rate
He always under plays his role
He is humble in his soul
He may be embarrassed to see these words
Rather look around or feed the birds
People love him because they know
In his writing his love does show
In my eyes he can stand erect
For this man I have so much respect
Only two months has Dibs been here
When he talks, so many hear
People put him in their heart
He impressed me from the start
