Dreams?
By: Joe Attanasio 2011
I was deep down exhausted that night
My head hit the pillow, I went out like a light
Darkness engulfed me
My mind floating in a cold dark sea
I woke with a start
A pounding in my heart
Knew not where I was
My brain filled with fuzz
My consciousness returned
My head took a turn
My brain shuttered in fear
For you were not near
I listened with intent
I didn’t know where you went
I heard not a sound
You were nowhere around
I got a lump in my throat
I started to choke
I yelled out your name
Just silence, the same
My thoughts were so dread
Could you be dead
Where have you gone?
It was almost dawn
I woke with a start
A pounding in my heart
Was it a dream, I shook
To terrified to take a look
I closed my eyes and turned my head
Opened them slowly at the bed
I could see a hump and some hair
Oh my god! You were there
I did not lie back down to sleep
I raised my hand, a tear to sweep
At your form I stared
Oh my god! You were there
