Nostalgia
By: Joe Attanasio
Remember the “good old days”
Excitement that set you ablaze
Situations, people and things
That tug at our “hearts strings”
Take a sentimental journey back
To the things in our life we now lack
No matter if they make you happy or sad
These are strong memories we have all had
A heartfelt yearning for things of the past
Take a trip with me, it is a blast
The taste of a hot dog at a ball game
Today it doesn’t seem quite the same
Roller skating down the street
Playing stickball was quite a treat
Hide and seek as nightfall fell
Where you hid you might never tell
The roller coaster, scary as hell
The carnival had a unique smell
The smell of a real Christmas tree
The yearly visit too the sea
Nostalgia drives depression away
Recalling when we used to play
Thinking of simple happy times gone by
Brings a warm glow that makes us high
Nostalgia springs from an old song
Into the past it carries us along
At least in thought we can return
So many things from our past we yearn
When we see an old classic car
Or remember getting to the sand bar
When we ran everywhere we went
Or drew with chalk on the cement
When all around girls jumped rope
Long summer days were filled with hope
Building a snowman for hours
Walking by the river picking flowers
It energizes our brains to re-live it
Sweet memories to recall if we permit
What things were you fond of?
What do you remember that you really loved?
