A little man came into my life,

He was quite a surprise.

He had been rejected,

By all he ever knew.

I took him to my home,

He felt so strange he hid.

I left him alone with his thoughts,

He came to me unafraid.

We felt each other out,

Some give and some take.

Slowly we became friends,

The best that we could make.

I cared for him when he was sick,

He kept me company.

He waited for me when I was out,

Greeting me on my return.

He would watch me work around the house,

Always by my side.

He would stare out the window for hours,

Watching the world go by.

He never complained,

He often had a quite smile.

He was very patient,

Ever watchful all the while.

One day he crawled in bed with me,

Wanting me to touch his belly.

He tried to bite me lovingly,

A game he loved to play.

He was a handsome man at that.

For William was my cat.
