My thoughts are deep and dark on this day;
so much to voice; so much I want to convey.
Troubled thoughts; of a world gone mad;
of a gunman’s fury and families now sad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Innocents and teachers; how can this be?
It is America; the land of the free…
Make it free of guns; and violence I plead;
No more children die; this should be our creed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Smiling little faces staring off the front page;
taken from this world at such a tender age.
Coffins carried gently,precious bodies hold;
Once warm with life; now they lay so cold.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What could the twenty children have done;
to the man who wielded his mother's gun?
Shooting them; the babies in their school;
A sick mind with a registered gun his tool.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What does it take to wake up a country gone mad?
apparently not twenty children; that is so truly sad.
Take away the games that teach our kids to kill;
Take away the movies that bend and shape their will!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, the guns take lives; but where comes the thought?
From stupid games of war and death; that can be bought.
Sitting for hours upon end; seeing blood fill the screen…
Firing guns and mowing down people is what’s seen;
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is this entertainment we all want our children to enjoy?
Learning life has no value; to just rampage and destroy?
“Virtual computer animation” Is that what we are to believe?
What of those with problems; mentally just don’t conceive;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
that it’s just a game; and go out for greater thrills one day?
It’s frightening what we condone; what we are willing to ignore;
Ratings ignored on games and movies; purchased at the store.
Hand them to the kids; “Here I got the one you wanted son!”
Then act surprised when told they’ve been caught with a gun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The one who kills the most gets bragging rights, he wins the game;
Then once out on the streets; he thinks nothing of those he’s slain.
Do we sit back and fold our hands; keep them clean of blood?
Or do we stop the madness that covers America like a flood?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Relying on elected officials to fix things; in them you have no doubt?
America is made of people; and we people still carry a lot of clout!
Write letters to congress; shout from rooftops if that is what it takes…
Let our leaders know this madness must stop, for all our children’s sakes!
