Don't Come to Me in Winter

Poetry By: Ava Rosien
Poetry

If we could choose when our end should happen; I would hope for it to be any season other than winter.

In the bleakness of winter, to me anyway, it seems so much sadder to lose someone.

Come see me in the springtime;

I will sing to you a song.

Come see me in the summertime;

when the days are long.

Come see me in the autumn;

when leaves turn red and gold;

but don't come to me in wintertime;

when the ground is cold.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will lie in discontent;
should the snow envelope me in white;
Instead place me somewhere colorful;
with full sun and light.
There I will reside in peaceful slumber;
as eternity's guest;
But if in winter's season come;
my soul could get no rest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is all I ask of the reaper

that visits each of us one day.

I want to die while earth is warm

and flowers bloom in May.

I know it's not my choosing;

but have compassion in my plea;

Oh death, don't come to me in winter;

another season visit me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will linger on the breeze
of summer's warming glow;
or be a part of the revival
of spring's wondrous show.
In the roots of the maple tree;
I will be reborn in the fall;
In vivid colors they display;
I will live on through them all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Come see me in the springtime;

I will sing to you a song.

Come see me in the summertime;

when the days are long.

Come see me in the autumn;

when leaves turn red and gold;

but don't come to me in wintertime;

when the ground is cold.
