When fairies danced and Unicorns pranced;

and dragons flew the skies;

There lived creatures with such features;

you would not believe your eyes.

They lived in caves beyond sea's waves;

half women and half fish were they.

They swam the sea, living free;

till sailed a mighty ship into their bay.

With nets thrown out; the men did shout;

"Capture one, or two or three!"

The mermaids swam deep, their lives to keep,

but one just could not flee.

In their net to her regret;

she found herself a captive of the men.

Poseidon roared and then employed

trident and summoned storm begin.

The ship rolled on seas controlled

by the angry God of ocean's rage.

Waves so high, made sailors cry;

as the ship sank and became their cage

Into the deep their souls to keep;

the mermaid was safely homeward bound.

Calmed returned their lesson learned;

from that day forth; no mermaids sailors found.
