Eyes as black as moonless night;
omen of despair;
sitting on window my ledge;
with a piercing stare.
Why are you here this eve;
perhaps my soul to steal?
Are you demon or accuser;
a hallucination not real?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of my delusions;
from tormented mind created;
speak you fowl; so my
fearful thoughts can be abated.
Your pecking beak taps the
window glass to enter in;
have you come to chastise me;
reckoning me my sin?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Black feathers glisten with blue;
your talons sharp to tear;
tell me raven, stay not in silence;
why is it you are there?
To drive me mad; it that the
game you’re intent to play;
staying by my window ledge
till the sun brings light of day?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be gone foul bird of black;
leave me and take wing this night!
Tell your sender I shall
not go by will; I beg thee take flight.
Vile raven of hell; perching still,
the glass cracks even more;
now the smell of brimstone;
comes a knock upon my door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Open up, I’ve come to claim
what is mine; the deal made;
Your soul for all the riches gained;
now it’s time I get paid.
The raven’s but forewarning;
of my coming for what’s due;
You made the deal long ago;
now I am here collecting you!”
