"DARKNESS IS ALL I CAN SEE"

Poem By: Azmat Shah
Poetry

Tags: mind, breath, darness, all, i, can, see, farce

I wrote this poem when i was 17 and in boarding school. I hated the routine of getting up at five in the morning and going to sleep at ten, The sheer monotany of life for two whole years almost drove me mad. I had to pretend to be someone else everyday for wrting poetry and that too in english was considered pretty wierd. Could you believe i hid my ability to speak english well and feigned an atrocious accent to fit in with the crowd. Each day was a farce but then so often life in the real world is exactly that. All the time I failed to see,

what was lying in the deep,

peering out infront of me,

darkness was all I could see.

Making out inscribtions on the walls,

in the tombs and in the halls,

of my mind, I could not breath

darkness was all I could see.

Searching for some peace of mind,

I roamed the caverns of my soul,

looking for some staunch support,

i could hardly stay afloat,

I tried my best to run and flee,

but darkness was all i could see.

In my grief and in my pain,

I searched for hope but invain,

I tried my best to make ends meet,

but I could not achieve this feat.

Atlast I yelled "JUST LET ME BE! "

DARKNESS IS ALL I CAN SEE!

This is easy to relate to. People live the lives of others everyday. The good thing is you obviously know better and look at you now, writing some great poetry! :) ~ Nixie

Thankyou,
My poetry is far from gr8 but your encouragement gives me hope that someday it might be.

Situations and people cross your path for a reason.
To sprout your thoughts.

ps - sorry for my delay in commenting and thank you for the invite.

You are absolutely right. You know, i didnt give a short history of my stay in boarding school to evoke the readers sympathy, i just wanted to enumerate my state of mind at the time.
P.S its O.K.

hi! azmat. this is something i've been through at times - not hiding my english but the monotony of school life. i too must say, "just let me be" as i like being idle most of the times.

i wish more readers read ur work for it is different from my usual reads. ;-)

I could relate to every word....because my husband was in Sainik school hostel for 6 years and he became a different man...very very practical and not at all romantic...it's like living with a robot.
I wish he never went to boarding school
I will never send my son to one though my hubby wants him to....
