Poem By: Azmat Shah
Poetry

This poem is part of a larger poetic story of mine. Its basically a dialogue with the devil, its my attempt to understand one of life's greatest mysteries. View table of contents...

They say the devil has many forms,

He brews like darkness before a storm,

But surely even he must mourn,

when he views the heavens daggers drawn.

They say he worshipped the eternal light,

on every world, both day and night,

they say for eons he reigned supreme,

the Lord of Angels he was but deemed.

Perhaps sometimes even he must think,

how his world collapsed in just one blink,

I sometimes wonder if he has a heart,

and if it beats in the burning dark.

I wonder if it makes him ache,

to fight the light he swore to hate,

when in that light he once found love,

in its embrace he once felt peace.

How must it feel to be reviled,

by those one loved but now defies,

and does his fury bear luscious fruit,

do all his deceptions hide the truth.

Does he ever pause in his grinding gait,

Does he sometimes rue his inevitable fate,

or is he too consumed with pride,

to never let doubt disrupt his stride.

Does he sometimes gaze up from his porulent abode,

And yearn for the heavens he once called home,

or is his existance confined to just one thought,

to crush all life before he rots.

How foolish to commence a lost war,

to settle nothing but a childish score,

I guess the darkness makes him blind,

He fights for goals eternally out of sight.

Thankyou very much, i am very glad you liked it. There is another poem i wrote just like this one which deals with God, i hope you like that one too.

i like the subject and the rhyming scheme. it reads like a poem. he was consumed with pride that brought his downfall from God's grace, ("or is he too consumed with pride). ;-)

Thankyou once again for ur comments.

I honestly do not believe that there is a devil. It maybe appears as an apparition if enough people conjure the same thoughts, the electricity of same thoughts producing it. The wonderful part of life is being open minded and non judgemental.

I love the way you've cosmetically set this up for very easy reading. The words you've used greatly command ta-dah ta-dah ta-dah ta-dah which is easy reading poetry that should rhyme. I commend you for the amount of time and clever mind you share with us. It's difficult to put something like this together for our viewing pleasure. Fantastic Job Azmat Shah.

Thankyou,
i know what you mean by saying that the devil does not exist. I too think that if you believe in something hard enough and with enough fervour than it exists.
Thanks for expressing ur views about this poem, i wrote this along with quite a few others as an attempt to humanize so many characters that we seldom try to understand. Be it God, the angels or in this case the devil. For me personally its very important to look at these entities through open eyes and try to figure out what they are all about.
