Labyrinth of the operatic mask

Poetry By: Balaji Iyer

When the past has not lived its days and the future had taken over... the remainders of the past keep reappearing as phantoms, as music, as masked operatic monsters.

The underlying monster rumbles in sleep
The labyrinth of musical creep
One high note and the towers above would fall in a heap
The masked operatic phantom sighs
As the dungeon prisoner cries
And the music in the world above dies
In act of desperation, he lunges to the fore
Clearing his path with slits and bloody gore
Yet promise of eternal music dangles on the shore
The musical prodigy in the labyrinth weeps
Her sobs devour the masked one's timeless keeps
Now the saviour of musical dreams arises and into the chasm seeps.
And centuries after the musical myth disappeared
The possessed poet's fingers appeared
To testify against the one who is still feared.
