A Crumbling World

Poem By: Beautiful Simplicity
Poetry

Tags: humanity

A poem that confronts the truth. Our world is going downhill and someone needs to do something. Immorality reigns and I think it's time that the decent people tried to do something about it. This is my contribution, however small it may be. View table of contents...

Sad is the word that comes to mind

When I think about the world

Yet sad alone is not deep enough

To express the painful truth

People say the "real world"

Starts when high school ends

But every day I wake up

Astonished by this very real world

There is cursing and cussing

Insulting and name-calling

It isn't just drugs and drinking

That cause our problems today

I walk down the hallway

Hearing words full of malicious intent

"Oh my god his picture's so ugly!"

"Did you hear what she did last night??"

Everyone wants a big chunk

Of the juiciest gossip, the latest rumor

Nobody wants to hear

About church, God, love or forgiveness

It's easy to get focused

On your own little world

Your wonderful life

Forgetting who you're hurting

All the people you've put to shame

My soul sobs for the world

We are so blind

Derision surrounds us

Disaster occurs around the globe--

Evil manages to survive

I cannot expect

Change overnight

I just wish someone

Would open their eyes

All humanity is not vain

Every person is not self-centered

Yet desire consumes us,

Fashion, sex, money and greed

Sometimes I hear talk of good things,

Of being charitable, generous and loving

But I don't see action

I see words rendered meaningless

It is times like these when

The good man must stand up

For if does not

We will crumble to pieces.

The world is indeed as such but we can also choose to look at it from a brighter perspective...hey, good guys do exist!

Beautiful Simplicity:

Nicely done! Liked it!

Sounds to me you are sufficiently mature and ready for college. If you are not graduating senior this year, then I hope you will make preparations and actually go.

You'll like college much more that High School. While there are still some small minds to be found in college, there are just not as many or any of the same ones with whom you must now deal. Good luck.

Happy trails,

Ed Bradley.
