Naked As We Came

Poetry By: Bez tsarya v golove
Poetry

Inspired by the Iron and Wine song, "Naked As We Came," this poem takes that lyric, that one poignant line, and develops it in a new way, with the theme that if we are not careful, many people can quietly just slip away, getting lost in the shuffle of life. With seven billion on this planet, many die having never truly lived or loved and they leave this world exactly how they came in - naked with no one knowing their name.

Someone, somewhere is crying

Someone, somewhere's maybe dying

Lying in the sand

Water lapping at their hands

Naked as we came

And no one knows their name

Someone, somewhere is falling

Someone, somewhere's maybe calling

Out into the cold blue earth

Lonely from their moment of birth

Naked as we came

And no one knows their name

Someone, somewhere is shrieking

Someone, somewhere's maybe seeking

Watching closely for a sign

Waiting for the stars to align

Naked as we came

And no one knows their name

Someone, somewhere is shaking

Someone, somewhere's maybe breaking

Spreading their hopes like ashes

Beads of sweat drip off their lashes

Naked as we came

And no one knows their name

The rain has come to wash away their fears

And all that's left is pain alone with tears

Why'd they have to go so far?

Who was there to heal their scars?

When did they even say goodbye?

Did we remember to reply?

Naked as we came

And no one knows their name

Naked as we came
