The Jewel.

To a mother was given a fragile jewel
She held it in her arms
For awhile she treasured it
She held it to her breast

To a mother was given a fragile jewel
She held it in her hand
The mother no longer cared for it
She crushed it in her fist.

Thank you again for you kind words. Sometimes people want something so badly that when they finally get it they don't know what to do with it.....

very nice write, Boneman. A child is a precious jewel and the poetic comparison works very well. Written with a nursery rhyme feel to it which adds to its depth and drama! Thanks for sharing......Jerry

Its sad that some people don't realize the wonderful gift they are given, and children are always a gift. This one was simple, but gave me a heck of a wallop! Wonderful job as always!

Children are a wonderous gift sometimes though the gift is given to the wrong people sadly.
