we can stop it

A pill

A swig to wash it down

Popping another waiting to drown

Blood stream coursing with alcohol

System full of drugs

Striving to get that high

This heart struggling to breath

Crushing under a weight unseen

Invisible to the naked eye

Scars that run so deep

A gaping wound that continues to bleed

With these drugs she hopes to escape

Too tired to keep running

Breath in shallow breaths

A soul full of pain

Aguish twisting her inside

A pill

Hoping to kill

The life she knew

A drink

To wash it away

Her world goes silent

Her body grows cold

Slowly slipping away unseen

We could have stopped it

Should have seen the signs

Shown some love

Interest in her life

Spoken words that could have changed her fate

But isn't it sad, the we realize this too late?
