Close your eyes

Poem By: Brian Peza Perrins
Poetry

For all the poor and starving in the world, spare a thought at this time of year when people generally spend high amounts of money on materialistic stuff. View table of contents...

Close your eyes and try to see
The poor and starving, the poverty

Close your eyes and think of this
Nothing left but staring into the abyss

Close your eyes but don’t drift away
Think of those with lives in disarray

Close your eyes, why can’t you see
The children starving, hear their plea

Close your eyes and thank the Lord
For all the things in life you can afford

Then close your eyes and drift to sleep
Whilst children die and mothers weep

Nice work, Brian. It's a shame that we as the human race allow things like this to exist in the world. Because we are not confronted with it regularly, we don't acknowledge its existence but thousands... THOUSANDS die each day from things as unfathomable as starvation and treatable infection, while we sit here munching on a Hersey bar. But somehow, there isn't enough food or antibiotics to go around for "Poor Countries." Thanks for sharing this poem and reminding us all. We need to pray for those less fornate and give what we are able this holiday season.
Thanks again and Happy writing, Brian......................Jerry

Hi Jerry, thank you for your comments and finding the time to reply. You're right the human race should be ashamed at the state of the world and what is allowed to go on. I hope this serves to remind just a few. Have a good Christmas just the same.
Regards Brian.

This is very powerful!Good writing Brian.

Thank you Deb and merry Christmas

A stirring message Brian.
I'm always humbled by the happy faces of children in starving countries, while I moan about no biscuits in the tin. 'Like it'
