revenge so sweet (old notebooks)

Poetry By: brucek

i used to be part a poetry writers group. at the end of each meeting we would decide on the assignment for the next meeting. the assignment for this poem was to write one with the first line "The great ape stood behind the glass". (apparently he'd already written one and was wondering if anyone could top it) so of course i said, "huh? you've got to be kidding!" this is what i came up with. you try if you think it's so easy!

The great ape stood behind the glass

That lie bloody from his feet.

Sharp slashed pain lay everywhere

Yet he ached revenge so sweet.

Searing eyes and heaving chest

His brain wreathed in its seat.

Retreat! Retreat! It screamed at him

Yet he lunged to tear the meat.
