Back when I was really young
with not a scar to show
my grandma sat me down to chat
she thought that I should know
that girls like me
we needed brains
to get ahead in life
an ugly girl without a brain
would never be a wife
I had some work to do in life
if i wanted to be a mum
cause i just wasn't pretty enough
to be dumb
I've always envied pretty girls
who don't seem to work as much
they have stuff given free to them
like jobs and love and such
but all us ugly ducklings
we learn to just get by
on brains and wit and sacrifice
and never question why
But with advancing age I've learned
that beauty's not the key
its what inside that really counts
the stuff that you can't see
that of all the things we have to give
our looks will fade away
but I'm still smart with a lovely heart
and get smarter every day
so grandma dear
where ever you are
thanks for all you've done
but in the end I'd rather be plain
than just be plain dumb
