Waltzing It Over

Poetry By: Charlotte Jayne

Visit the fairground in your mind, re-discover the magic and excitement you experienced on those cold dark evenings. But remember, it's just for the night.

Give in to uncertainty

In the land of bright lights and starry nights

The sweet scent of cotton candy

Acknowledges old acquaintances;

Airy wisps of donuts, deep-fried

Sausages sizzling on steamy stands.

The night is young, and so are you-

So inhale the rush and excitement

And soak up the screams of laughter.

Let your youth lead,

Take your tokens.

Hold your eyes tight and feel the fairground

Whooshing away.

With hands held hard

Release. See smiles ablur

Swirling and spinning

Throw your head back

Feel the tears of inertia stream down your cheeks

As you ground to a halt

Shake off that feeling of nauseous nostalgia

Step back into reality - it's over.
