Rose-Petal Whispers

You have a hooligan's eyes

That belie your soft skin;

The cupid's kiss above

A hero's chin;

The aurora smile

That defies,

Is defiled,

By the rotten core,

That skulking whore,

Who lies inside

Your feculent soul.

Soft speech, soft words,

Rose-petal whispers

Interred as surd,

Still-born upon the air,

Beckon in intrigue and promise

Then snatch hope and reasoning rare,

Supplant loyalty with treason,

Steal crowns from kings,

Pretty things

From innocents

With nought to give.

You are wishes,

And kindness,

And lover.

The sower of life,

The giver of faith,

The maker of crosses,

The digger of graves,

The barbed-wire embrace,

The dark state of grace,

The raising of fortune,

The fall in disgrace.

You are all,

You are none,

You're the shadow in sun.

You are Devil and God,

You are father and son,

You are all that has been

And all yet to come.

You are lion,

You are lamb,

You are cursed to be damned,

For whatever you do,

You are only a man,
