If you been a poet on Booksie since the Spring of 2011...you might be familiar with this famous battle between two poets. Striver7777 and Eileen McGuinness went through what I call "A poet's war" and this poem is about this famous battle that many of us still remember and lost two talented poets in the process. Enjoy!

"Poet's War"

Poetic words put on display; for the entire world to see.
Audience comments on one's accomplishments and poetic works.
All in good fun without conflict.
But like a drug that makes you blind; all good is thrown out.
Great talents of two poets; unknown reasons turn against.
Misunderstanding turns to fighting words.
A mudslinging of slander and anger turns the platform to a war zone.
A poet's war has begun.
Everybody around stays neutral; attempting peace between,
A task proving impossible.
Fighting poets drag the neutrals in;
In hope lines will be drawn.
A failure on both parts; turning a platform into disarray.
Fighting poets' fans stand aside; reading the dirty laundry that appears.
Why can't we get along?
The slander stops; the words of fighting no more.
As the dust settles; no winners come out.
The images they once held; tarnished forever.
Fallen from grace by reasons few knows.
Was it worth it?
Are they proud for what they've done?
Never shall we know; for their existence is no more.
Two great talents; now gone by a foolish poet's war.
