Clutching Words

Love is a complicated thing.

My timid fingers brush the keys,

Tangled tongues and bruised knees.

I reach for you,

I reach,

I reach.

But love is something I can't teach.

Pushed along, next in line,

I'm breaking down, you're feeling fine.

A shadowed hand upon my back,

Hairs on my neck grow stiff.

A shadowed hand upon my back,

Whispering,

"What if?"

I'm sad but I've forgotten why,

That's the reason I still cry.

From a dream I'll wake up dead,

Clutching words I left unsaid.
