Carousel: You and I

Poetry By: Coralie

Something that I actually developed while on a carousel with one of my sisters!

Up and down,
Spinning around,
Not quite flying
But barely off the ground
People come and they go
Through the rain, sleet, and snow
Taking with them bits and pieces
Of their mothers, sisters,
Brothers, nieces.

Vibrant colors,
Fake stars overhead,
Hardly a human
But not yet dead.
Whirling and twirling
Upon a post,
Each and every memory
Is another new ghost.

Unable to leave
Somehow wanting to stay
Going around in circles
Is the only way
To try and stay alive
And live another day
Yet when it comes to living
We are deprived.

Fake appearances
And plastic eyes,
Through the smoke
And the mirrors,
We cannot tell apart the lies.
As we keep going
But ask ourselves why
Soon we will know.
The carousel:
You and I.
