The Toxicity of Fighting Parents

Internal fighting is nothing compared
To what's going on outside
As they both fight
Am I to blame?
I struggle to hide
As the war has been declared
She's gone and slammed the door
Previous threats had meant nothing more.

As I lay down my sisters
I cower in the dark
Wondering where my mother has gone
And the journey we're about to embark.
This time I know
It's been a final straw
And I cannot choose sides,
But one must win,
They refuse to call it a draw.

This situation is toxic
For all of us involved
And I won't breathe easy
Until it's been resolved.
With all that has happened,
I fear for the worst
For the parent that's been favored
Or the one who has raised me since birth.

They fought over money,
They fought about me
And I'm ready to cry
Ready to die
Maybe then they'd be able to see
That all of this is confusing
And there's so much at risk of losing
It's tearing apart our family.

I don't want it to be like this
But I'd rather the past
When nothing was quite perfect
But it wasn't a broken cast.
Is she back again?
Will this time she stay?
No, it's only temporary,
This fight will continue to cause further dismay.
