You Won't Bring Me Down

Poetry By: Coralie

I've been in love once before and have let it get the best of me, allowing everything to control my thoughts. But this is the NEW me, and I refuse to let anything bring me down, inspiring this poem.

Problems that keep getting higher

My eyes feel like they're on fire

From all the tears that came and went

And all the sleepless nights that I've spent

Wishing that we could fix everything

That we could strive for something

Something we could redeem

Something we could have saved

But now it's disappeared like wispy steam.

So is the fighting worth losing it all?

Building it up higher just for us to fall,

To that place where we cannot return,

When will we learn?

We have let all of our bridges burn.

Now we have to live with our mistakes

And stop promising things we know are fake.

I thought my mind was something you could not shake,

But I also thought my heart

Was something that was too strong to break.

The time we spent together we will never get back

But that's fine with me, I'd rather remember this

Before everything fades to black.

Even after all these years

All the laughter, all the tears,

You've picked your stance

And I have mine.

All of these battles have made us blind.

No matter what place I go,

My battle scars will always show.

The only one I could ever let in,

Please know that I've loved you even though I cannot win.

You are the one I will never forget,

You are the one I refuse to regret.

But still I will never allow you

To bring me down,

No, I will stand my ground,

I will stay strong,

I know that I have been wrong,

But you will never bring me down.
