Gesture of Departure
I sit prepared now
For the things that may or may not come
A settling overcame me
Bringing peace.
Even if Death challenged me now
A smile would come to me
And the world
I’d leave behind
With a thought,
With a gesture of departure.
Life is easy for no one
Despite what we think we see
None of us escape hardships,
Death is but a breath away.
I am armored up
I am ready
I expect nothing
Yet wish for the best.
You, bringer of pain,
I fear you not
Nor the consequence of my ignorance.
You are but a stone
A step to the side
Onto a path of heaven
Perhaps soon
We shall meet again
And your cloaked companion
Shall be with you
Just as before.
My mind is settled.
All is well.
My ears listen.
My eyes watch.
My soul awaits.
A sword in my hand.
Comfort within.
Bring it on, my friend.
