Don’t label me for
I’m not to be labeled
Don’t think you know me
And you know nothing of me.
I’m not to be confused with one of the click
That not how I roll
And not how I deal chick.
I’m sophisticated.
Educated.
A phenomenal woman.
YEAH, baby that is me.
No, I’m not trying
To be the next Maya Angelou.
I’m working hard
To make my own mark,
But you, you’re around trying to beat me down
So I don’t rise.
I will rise
I’m like Martin Luther King
I have a dream.
I’m not around trying to put people down
I’m not trying to destroy the hope they have
I’m trying to build dreams
What about you?
I see you don’t have an answer
To the question at hand.
If you stop trying to label others
For the things they do
Misjudging and criticizing,
Someone will extend a helping hand to you.
Don’t label others and they won’t label you
Do unto others as you wish them to do unto you.
I don’t have to show off my assets
To get what I need,
And neither do you.
I just have to be me
The only one I can be
What about you.
