I Am Who I Say that I Am
You might have thought
You knew my identity,
But let me tell you a thing or two.
It’s more to me than
What the eye can see
For I am who I say that I am.
Don’t be mislead
By what you may think of me
I am who I say that I am.
Just because
I’m not what you think I should be,
Doesn’t give you the authority
To recreate my identity.
I’m strong.
I’m bold.
I’m beautiful.
I’m independent.
I am a well-educated sista
So therefore, don’t you get it twisted
For I am who I say that I am.
I’m fearless
I’m wonderfully made,
When I speak.
I speak with power
Words roll from my lips
Like the Ancient seas.
So now you see
It’s more to me
Than what the eye can see.
I am who I say that I am.
Trying to be me
The ONE
INDEPENDENT ME.
The one who flew over the oceans
Soared over the seas
The one looked in sun’s bright eyes
And said, I’m taking a stand.
I’m walking into my destiny.
I am who I say that I am.
I’m not be battled against
I’m not to be competed with
So therefore, recognize
When you take one glance at me.
You will know who I am,
I’m the sista
Who set the steaks.
You gain my trust
You earn my respect.
No, don’t mistake me for some hard nock chick
I am who I say that I am
I AM ME.
