The chain-link fence

A poem I wrote on the road one day

There's a chain-link fence between my heart and his.

Love permeates the air surrounding us but the fence still stands.

Dreams remain, solemn scars to remind me what can never be.

This fence has holes that have always been there but something new has arisen.

I do believe one of the links has been broken.

This doesn't mean everything has changed

But there's a new connection between us that I had not felt before.

And all it took to break that link in the fence was a kiss.

A kiss like none I've ever felt before.

Yes, there are many more links in the fence.

But I know things are different now and it feels so right.

Not all chain-;ink fences can stand the test of time.

But love can.
