Self-explanatory

We said goodbye to the little discretion we had left;
We dropped our cards and lost the bet…
We drank away our fears and our dreams to make it in the world.
We’ve all grown out of key and out of touch;
We all knew we never amounted to very much.
But we said we’d still be here for each other in some way.
With fogged up searchlights guiding our lives
We might as well have been running with knives
Not to mention our complete loss of what was important.
The pictures we took only replace our memory
With broken images fixed and brought up carelessly
These formed events we swore never happened.
The group of us all had each other planned ahead
We knew our paths and every word we’d ever said;
Now it’s as good as if we never were at all.
Time has taken away everything we loved
And pushed us apart, forgetting with every shove
That we actually tried to survive, hand in hand.
