I dedicate this poem to Obi, a wise man indeed!

The Cavalryman

In the trenches of mind warfare we toil.

Separated from our kin

Ill equipped and cold

Sodden in self-pity

We fight alone

Fear our saviour and our prison keeper

Failure pounds its contemptuous shells

Lighting the sky with deaths calling

Sharp shards of despair scream all around

Cowering we crouch in our hovel of self-destruction

All our courage we must muster

Drag our weary mind over the edge

Chance our luck, charge only forward

But guilt's razor wired barbs will snare

And a hail of hatred and anger might cut us down

In the depths of paralysis a bugler sounds!

Sharp and clear the reveille calls.

Hopes hooves thunder from above.

For barely a blink fears loosens its grip.

Our instinctive response

GO NOW! Risk all!

Out of self-destruction we crawl

Feeble excuses our bayonet drawn.

Stomach churned battle cry forced.

Willing ourselves to fight

Expecting to die.

The Cavalryman rides forth

His battle cry loud and true

Live for today and fight for your dreams!

His call taken up by a hundred voices

And the bellowing of wildly excited nostril flared horses

My horseman rode alongside his brothers

And as I rose out I was stunned by the others

A thousand foot soldiers stand tall and erect

Voices loud and direct.

We fight for today and all of our dreams.

You and I were never really alone

Just isolated by a mutual fear

My friend let us join the soldiers of fortune

Charge with me into future's mist

And as we run we will search out others trenches

'Come live for today and fight for your dreams!'

The Cavalryman's call will binds us one and all.
