Isn't it odd, how life's complicated,
how even the biggest things are overrated?
Thing like life, love, and loss
unlike pain, the hardest bridge to cross.

Cigarettes and alcohol, recurring habits
waiting to surface from burrows like rabbits.
Overstepping my lines, waiting to fall
when losing everything means gaining it all.

Such a journey life has been,
lost in dreams, and lost in sin.
Always staying afloat for whatever reason
finding something to hold to for each and every season.

But someday it all will end,
everything said, like letters I forgot to send.
Someday soon, the time will pass
when every dream is fulfilled at last.

Childhood dreams of love and money,
pictures of memories all too funny.
Teenage dreams of marriage and success,
the chance to wear your imagination's dress.

The chance of a lifetime,
the chance to live out your favorite rhyme.
The chance to dance the streets of Graceland,
the chance to walk a European beach's sand.

Oh, I wish I took the chance,
to just live, experience, and freelance.
But no, pity and shame on my foolish self
I put love and happiness away on the shelf.

I damned myself to a cursed life,
exchanged potential for grief and for strife.
I walked alone, burnt bridges behind me,
rejected the loved ones that set me free.

I made this choice, time and time again,
promised myself to never find a friend.
Ran far from society and its outstretched reach,
fed off emotion, my own personal leech.

But then again, another choice was made
another chance, a foundation was laid.
A road to freedom, to life reborn,
life itself took on a whole new form.

A form of hope for a future life
a hope for a family, for a wife.
I can believe in new things,
I can fly on broken wings.

This is a very touching and emotional poem. I really loved it. It posseses a sense of hope. That even though the wings are damaged, you can still move on with life . Theres is still hope for the future and it doesnt mesn its the end. But over time broken wings can heal

Wonderful poem!!!!!

Thank you very much for this comment, as I see you have very much gotten my feelings. Beaten, broken, and battered - time will start to heal those wounds, there is always hope for the future.

thank you, i appreciate the read and the wise analysis. we are all faced with similar choices, how we make them and how we react to the results are what define us.
