A poem that I have had publised before, but I always seem to come back to.

Have you ever wandered
down broken halls?
Been lost in a place
you've been all your life?
Have you ever forgotten
the sound of your voice?
Been lost in the moment
or given no choice?
Have you ever been known
to break all the rules?
Been shocked into realizing
you look like a fool?
Have you ever been broken
somewhere deep inside,
but not had the courage
to let it all slide?

I'm broken from all
that I've seen and done.
But I just can't tell you
unless you have known,
the loss of the spirit
you fight with each day.
Or the memory of something
no one can take away.

Sometimes you must realize
no matter how hard you try,
the world takes no genius
to show what it hides.
Just open your eyes
and lend out a hand.
No one will tell you
when they've lost all they had.

Listen in the silence
you'll hear more than thought.
You'll hear what most others
might just have forgot.
The dark holds no secrets
unless they're put there.
Awake in the darkness
and do not fear.
