i have so much in my life

to be thankful for

so many memories

on which i reflect

but the greatest of all

are the golden years i recall

of the grandparents who earned my respect .

my grandmother it seems

can still enter my dreams

whenever i'm living a lie

for she taught ''speak from your heart''

from the truth don't depart

a lesson i've tried to live by.

i treasure my friends

though the truth sometimes tends

to be something they don't wish to hear

but i stick by my beliefs

and i gain some relief

when i'm forgiven by those i hold dear.

my family too

can sometimes be blue

when faced with unpalatable truth

but i can't change who i am

for i am the man

my grandparents defined in my youth.

so from my heart i will speak

sometimes tongue firmly in cheek

and i thank all for the love that they give

for without you i'd be weak

and have a heart made from teak

i will treasure you as long as i live .
