The hardest question to answer is "why?"

Your rusty fingernails are scratching out a beat I must hear
The poison tongue brigade is screaming words that everyone fears
This broken sonnet is a sillhouette of greater things I know
But you kept knowledge like a secret hidden somewhere down below

In your guts a razorblade gnaws
You search for beauty and only find flaws
Rose-colored goggles broke to pieces
Cynically you search for reasons

Why do all these people put on boots
And march out in the streets
In order to wave signs
That make no sense like a delirious army?
And what's with all the hate
And lack of respect
That's guiding your movement now?
Why can't I break these walls down?

You're putty to the money and the lust
You never gave a damn whether we lived or died or won or lost
Victory is a button to sew on your uniform
You weren't there to see them fall but you'll send their loved ones letters home

Why do all these people put on boots
And march out in the streets
in order to wave signs
That make no sense like a delirious army?
And what's with all the hate
And lack of respect
That's guiding your movement now?
Why can't I break these walls down?

I'd wait a moment for a chance to freeform speak
And ask a question of
Those that wish to lead
Where are we going?
What are we doing here?
Why does a pattern of shattered glass make more sense
And seem much more clear?
And I am not religious
But at least I know
That this ship has got to change it's course
Of course,
It's too late I know
But still I must ask:

Why do all these people put on boots
And march out in the street
In order to wave signs that make no sense
Like a delirious army
And what's with all the hate
And lack of respect
That's guiding your movement now?
Why can't I break these walls down?
