Three cheers for letting go

I'm not ashamed
That it's been that bad.

I'm not ashamed
That I have been so lost
That I carved maps on my body
Just so I could eventually
Find my way,

Or that on some days
I wake up
And tsunamis crash through
My body
And I'm so filled with their waters
That I can't even breathe,
Let alone get out of bed.

And I'm not ashamed
That I have devoted
Every atom in my body
To loving you,
And that I have spent my days
Giving my heart
To someone
Who had no heart
with which to accept it.

I have found beauty
In other things
Besides your icy blue eyes
And happiness in
The rolling green hills
Of myself
When I thought I was nothing
But a desert.

Flowers have grown
In between my ribs
And I've discovered new constellations
In my blemishes,
And for once,
I am not ashamed.
