Derivatives in Math Class

Other things besides functions and slope

I was sitting in math class

trying to find the velocity

of a ball
falling off a building

100 feet high.

But when am I

ever going to have to worry abut that?

Don't they know

I'm terrified of heights?

I'm never going to have to

find the speed of a

dropped ball

(a bowling ball? a bouncy ball?

does it even really matter?)

what about the velocity

of the thoughts running through my mind?

They pound on my brain

like the angry feet of

rioting civilians,

running in despair,
running in anger,

They are going so fast.

And my head hurts so much,

and all I really want to know

is the velocity
of my drooping eyes

and how long it will be

until I finally fall asleep.
