Finding freedom in the small things

I was waiting for Mel
To get out of the prison of a school,
With its brick walls and
Black iron gates. I
'm sure they trapped her in a classroom
And probably locked her in there
Good and tight
Because I've been waiting for an hour.

But some guy
- probably a parent of another prisoner waiting to say his final farewells -
Was playing mariachi music
From his white mustang.
And I had decided to move to the grass
So I could mourn the loss of my sister to the prison guards
But it was funny
Because the little blades of grass
Seemed to stand so tall
And sway to the rhythm of the guitar.
And a little ladybug kept dancing
In and out of view,
Unashamedly samba-ing in the air.
And I realized that I was wearing
My dancing skirt
So maybe I could spin and twirl
With the grass and my ladybug.

I decided I could wait a little longer.
