I'm trying my very best

yet I don't understand

the words and moments between us.

I just hunger and long.

I don't understand.

You stand there still.

I just hunger and long

and you dangle affection.

You stand there still.

Fool, I keep coming back.

You dangle affection,

knowing and caressing yourself in it.

Fool. I keep coming back

even when you starve our affair,

knowing and caressing yourself in it.

I grab for the luscious crumb.

Even when you starve our affair,

here I lounge and deal seduction.

I grab for luscious crumbs.

But I'm learning the hard art of stingy.

Here I lounge and deal seduction,

my aim messy and devastating.

But I'm learning the hard art of stingy.

Unfortunately I still haven't tired of your games.

My aim is messy and devastating.

I think I'm hurting innocent victims.

Unfortunately i still haven't tired of you games.

Not in my right state. For now, expendable.

I think I am hurting innocent victims.

Numb spectator, unmoved.

Not in my right state, for now-- expendable.

Wake up! Before it is too late.

Numb spectator. Unmoved.

It makes no difference that it is apparent how you feel.

Wake up, before it's too late!

You're rife with regret, before you know it, I'm certain.

It makes no difference. It's apparent how you feel.

My emotions stray even as my desire remains.

You're rife with regret. Before you know it, I'm certain.

I am right here, say your goodbyes now.

My emotions stray, even as my desire remains.

You simply push all the right buttons.

I am right here, say your goodbyes right now.

Come on, don't keep me waiting.

You simply push all the right buttons.

Or perhaps it's what you fail to do.

Come on, don't keep me waiting.

Maddening, beautiful man.

Perhaps it's what you fail to do.

I try my very best

not to think of it as a challenge,

the words and moments between us.

Hello,seesawmae-- I'm really glad you liked it. 'Hope to read some of your work as well. Take care. T.

"you dangle affection" - what a clever phrase. It makes us think it (he) is not genuine. This is so well written, full of contradictions and the reasons for "addiction".

Hi again, Anna Therese-- love & lust... what a complicated, entangled, and not always so clearly delineated thing, eh? I'm glad you liked. "you dangle affection"-- I grasped for the perfect word, and that satisfied me.

Thank you. Take care.

T.

Nickleback is much less poetic about it in their song "All the wrong reasons", but the same idea is there. I like this. You are very artistic about a maddeningly pleasurable pain.

clslater-- "maddeningly pleasurable pain,"-- what an apt description, it sums up the whole experience in those 3 words. I don't believe I've heard the Nickelback song. I'll have to look it up. Thank you... take care now.

T.
