Studies of Somnolence

Poetry By: Fan Fan

the oft-felt experience of sleeping in class

Discernment to disillusionment fades

The lines blurred between what is not and true

Reality sojourns in separate shades

Speech makes guise of verisimilitude

Or is it the dream that tangibility feigns

Do my drowsy thoughts prance nude

In somnolent excursion the hour through

I disappear a while from instruction's face

Rigid desks spur no vigilance new

It's a battle from which I need to wake

A war within four modest walls

I fight for what I know is at stake

Then there's a dense humming in each ear

Sleeping in class is a loud noise

That I wish no one else to hear
