We are not just lonely

Poetry By: fireflystar

I sat outside for 45 minutes and wrote this. Am always interested to know what you think.

How can I disturb the quiet, of this clear November night?
The sound of my thoughts echo and disturb the peace.
There are fireworks in the sky tonight, and the world is how it should be, save for you and me.

How many of these nights do I remember like this?
Many, yet surrounded by friends and family, people I love and once, you.
Last year, just me and you.
What did we do?
I wanted the stars, at our wedding to shine on you.

This night is a night of laughter and warmth around fires, or it used to be of old
last year you taught me not to feel the cold.
I could stay out here forever.

I can feel your memory beside me.
Though that's my fault, I came to the place where I knew you would be.
You with your laptop and your fleece.

My head was clear, until the mention of your name,
I left my friends and am on my own again.
It's strange to think that after all this time,
You still have the power to make me fly.

I'm left with doubts and the peace of the world,
The knowledge that the people I love are safe and warm.
That's so good.
I'd be with them now, not you, if I could.
Or would we all be together?

But they called your name and I went away
It's what you always wanted, maybe that power will stay.
There's a difference between this year and the last.
When stars collide like the present and the past.
We're not just lonely in the dark and the cold.
We are alone.
