Your broken heart I could not mend
My own I did not defend.
I guess we’re all broken in the end.
I took blow after blow,
Little did I know
With me, you never wanted to go.
All I ever wanted was to do
Was to win you over, to help you.
I guess the messages just didn’t go through.
I fought for you tooth and nail.
Even when others told me to bail.
Now I wish I had because you ran me off the rail.
You gave me a taste of what I desired
Then you threw it away, into the fire.
Left me wanting more, the need is dyer.
I know I should run, not walk
I see I’m almost out of time as I look up at the clock.
Put my broken heart in box, running out of time, I secure the lock.
Time is up, the alarm goes off.
I look up into your eyes, deceivingly soft.
You’re no longer what’s keeping me aloft.
Gone is the time for talking,
Done is the breaking.
Lost forever is the loving and trusting.
The chasing after you, though, has just begun.
I still want you, so I’ll run.
Like it not, I still need you hun.
Your broken heart I could not mend
My own I did not defend
I guess we’re all broken in the end.
