Life on the Streets

Spare a thought for those on the streets
no where to go and nothing to eat
no comfort, bar an old cardboard box
wrapped in newspapers, no blankets, no socks!
Rummaging through waste bins for their dinner,
waste not, want not, still they get thinner,
ageing rapidly through the harshness and the cold
no first flush of youth in these faces old
Young boys and girls sullied by pimps and perverts
accused by the bigots as getting just deserts
discarded, as if rubbish by this throw-away society
frowned upon even by acts of piety
